Celebrating one of the most remarkable nights in Cincinnati baseball history! Take a step back in time to September 16, 1988, when the always-contending 1980s Pete Rose-led Reds were still in the hunt for the N.L. West pennant, and the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers were in town. Needing a win to keep hope alive in that raucous ’88 season that included the famous Pete Rose 30-game suspension for inciting a near riot after a late-inning bad call; and the MLB All-Star Game being played at Riverfront Stadium in July, the Reds sent lefty star Tom Browning to the hill. After a nearly three-hour rain delay, Tom took to the mound in front of a depleted crowd, and began mowing them down. Stellar defense helped keep the Dodgers in check throughout the night. Then, with a chance at history in the 9th, it happened – flyout to right, groundout to short, and then a strikeout of pinch-hitter Tracy Woodson to seal it – a perfect game, the first in Cincinnati Reds history!
